The Novice Division is here for those who want to compete in barrel racing, but not quite up to those leading times in the typical Open 5D barrel race.  Novice is for riders that fall into 6D through 9D Times at the race.   More specifically, if you have a horse/ rider combination who are just starting out, haven't already won over $500 in cash or awards, or are regularly running 2.5 seconds slower than those typical leading times in the Open 5D races, then running for Novice awards might be what you are looking for!   If you happen to run in the Novice, but also qualify by the age group for Youth or Senior.  You can enter into the awards division for either of those age groups as well!
